The first expansion of the gas storage facility Tuz Gölü in central Turkey started in 2006 and included the construction of 12 gas caverns. As a subcontractor of DBI Gas- und Umwelttechnik GmbH, ESK was responsible for engineering and consulting services as well as project management during leaching and gas first fill in the role of an owner’s engineer. 

The second expansion involves the development of the storage site with at least 26 additional caverns and a working gas volume of 4 billion cubic meters. In this context, ESK has been responsible as contractor for underground engineering services including on-site supervision for leaching, gas completion, gas first fill and snubbing/final assembly since 2020. 

This is currently the only storage expansion project in Europe.
