The future is connected
Since 2015, we have been an important partner for energy system services for well-known grid operators, municipal utilities and industry. We are involved in the realisation of major infrastructure projects such as the market area conversion from low calorific to high calorific gas. The knowledge gained in this process, we use for other grid services such as the decarbonisation strategy, grid upgrades, charging infrastructure for e-mobility, HSE management in projects and broadband expansion.

Market area conversion from low to high calorific gas
As an established partner in the market area conversion, we have been successfully supporting a large number of grid operators in the conversion from low to high calorific gas since 2015. In over 20 grid areas, we have already performed surveys, adaptations and quality assurance together with our cooperation partner Gatter3Technik GmbH. We cover the entire value chain of the market area conversion from project management to technical conversion.
Our experienced team makes things easier
We have bundled our project management expertise and our practical experience in surveys and adaptations, material logistics and customer communication in technical project management. A team of qualified employees and experts manages the entire conversion process on the basis of a data management system specially developed for the market area conversion, thereby ensuring efficient and smooth project implementation. Our logistics and call centre – both based at our site in Holzwickede, Germany – complete the value chain of our services.
With EWE Netz GmbH and Westnetz GmbH, two of the largest extensive network operators rely on our expertise. From rural structures to large cities, from regional municipal utilities to corporate groups: we know the needs of our customers and the specifics of the individual projects.

Decarbonisation strategy
Decarbonisation means minimising carbon dioxide emissions by replacing fossil fuels with renewable energies. The decarbonisation strategy refers to a roadmap with which ESK GmbH implements a low-emission economy for municipal utilities, local authorities and industries. We follow the approach of not giving preference to certain technologies and the principle of “one face to the customer”.
We consider the following technologies, among others: hydrogen, heat pumps, renewable energies from sun, wind and water, geothermal energy, industrial waste heat and methanation.

Our services
- Project development (feasibility studies, consulting services)
- Project management (concept/strategy development, evaluation of end devices by cooperations, options for action, funding planning, profitability calculations, supplier selection, commissioning, operating phase)
- Project management for industrial companies/investors includes: basic engineering, detail engineering, funding planning, authority engineering, profitability calculations, supplier selection, commissioning)

Grid upgrades
As electricity consumption is expected to rise considerably in the future due to the decarbonisation of the energy supply, the electricity grids in many areas must be prepared for the requirements of the energy transition. This must be carried out at the same time as the ongoing tasks and requires a high degree of organisation and attention. In this context, ESK GmbH offers the organisation and implementation of grid upgrades for grid operators. In addition to project management, construction, risk management and the allocation of personnel and materials, we also contribute our experience in stakeholder management.

Our services
- Project management
- Upgrade of power grids
- Exchange of grid stations
- On site supervision
- General contractor for the entire construction project

HSE management
Health, occupational safety and environmental protection are becoming increasingly important in the working environment, both in the office and on construction sites. HSE coordination on construction sites means ensuring the safety and health protection of employees and all other persons affected by the construction work.
HSE coordination includes various tasks, such as:
- Preparation and review of risk assessments, operating instructions, emergency concepts and other documents that describe the potential risks and measures on the construction site
- Review and improvement of the HSE management system, which defines the objectives, strategies and responsibilities for occupational health and safety
- Support in complying with legal and internal regulations, such as the Construction Site Ordinance, which regulates the coordination of the planning and execution of construction work
- Organisation of trainings, instructions and audits to increase the awareness and competence of employees and subcontractors
- Communication and cooperation with all parties involved on the construction site, such as the project client, the project manager and the health and safety coordinator (German: SiGeKo)
HSE coordination is an important factor in the success of a construction project, as it not only protects the safety and health of people, but also promotes the quality, efficiency and sustainability of the construction work. HSE coordination is carried out by trained HSE consultants at ESK.

Our services
- Support of the project management team in the implementation of the HSE criteria on the construction site and involvement in the project process at an early stage
- Site inspections with or without the project manager, among others for compliance with the HSE rules during project implementation
- Project support by HSE consultants, e.g. with safety walks, documentation and tracking of deviations

Charging infrastructure for e-mobility
Charging infrastructure for e-mobility is an important factor for the success of the energy transition and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector. ESK is primarily the point of contact when it comes to planning the charging infrastructure. We benefit from our many years of experience in this area in particular, but also from the broad network of partners and experts of our parent company, Westenergie Group, which can provide support in the implementation and operation of the charging infrastructure.
- ESK has experience in the project planning of charging infrastructure. This enables us to offer high-quality, customised solutions that always meet the technical requirements and standards.
- ESK is a young and flexible company that adapts to the needs and wishes of its customers. This enables us to offer customer-orientated and innovative advice and planning for the charging infrastructure. This takes into account both economic and ecological aspects.
- ESK is part of the Westenergie Group, one of the leading providers of energy services in Germany. This means that we can draw on a broad network of partners and experts at any time to support the implementation and operation of the charging infrastructure.

Our services
- Analysis of needs and determination of current situation on site
- Quotation from planning to turnkey, taking into account technical and normative requirements
- Project planning including infrastructure works such as earth and cabling works
- Selection of charging stations, optional charging management
- Commissioning and documentation

Broadband roll-out
Roll-out of the broadband network in Germany will continue in the coming years in order to provide nationwide access to high-speed internet. The expansion of the broadband network is an important step towards digitalisation. In addition to running cables and building house connections, project management is also required to realise these projects.
ESK supports as project manager and coordinates the trades on site. We have also been applying our many years of project management experience in large infrastructure projects to broadband expansion for several years. We are responsible for all expansion stages (FTTX). Thanks to our project management expertise, we ensure that all trades involved in the construction project are optimally coordinated and that the planning is realised within the time frame. Safety at work is always our top priority.
