Since 2016, ESK has been providing engineering services to RWE Gas Storage West GmbH as part of the decommissioning process of the Kalle aquifer storage facility, the deepest aquifer storage facility in Europe at the time of operation.

This includes geological and reservoir engineering support for cushion and residual gas production, support for the contractor in the approval planning and in the planning and execution of the backfilling of a total of 9 storage operation wells (depth approx. 2,100 m). In addition to drawing up work programmes and the necessary specifications for the required materials, equipment and services, ESK's specialist personnel were on site during backfilling activities.

Since 2024, we have been responsible for preparing the specifications for the general planning of the reservoir decommissioning and the final operating plan.
