Groundbreaking ceremony in Frankfurt am Main, Germany
14.08.2024
On 14th August 2024, the ground-breaking ceremony for the first construction phase of the pilot project “renewal of the electricity grid” took place in the Dornbusch city district of Frankfurt/Main, Germany. Over a project period of 2 years, approximately 2.5 km of low- and medium-voltage cables, street lighting, network distributors and a station will be replaced. This also includes civil engineering works, 6 road crossings and 120 house connections. The project has a pilot character because new procedures and process approaches are being tested using a practical example. Grid operator NRM Netzdienste Rhein-Main GmbH needs to adapt the entire electricity supply to the climate protection targets and implement a solution for increasing electricity consumption, a volatile electricity supply and security of supply. The climate protection targets cannot be achieved without electricity. The bundling of the very different sectors alone leads to a high level of complexity due to the large number of parties involved. Authorisations have to be obtained, materials management and construction by different trades have to be coordinated and the public should notice as little of the work as possible.
NRM Netzdienste Rhein-Main GmbH based in Frankfurt/Main, Germany is the contracting authority, ESK GmbH will have the role of the general contractor and will be responsible for the complete project realisation, including planning, construction, scheduling, quality control, acceptance and surveying.
